I have this Philips PCRW4816 burner, i bought it like 2months ago. first it seemed to work as it should, but then lately i havent managed to burn a single cd.
the errors i get is "Spindle Servo failure"
"Track Following Error" ive tried with all different programs, tried with different ASPI's, different CD-R disc brands, on my friends computer (windows XP also), nothing works. then i tried to burn a CD in Linux (RH 9.0), no problems. any idea what could be the problem?

Edit: bought TDK cdr's today, no change. tried with nero 6, "focus or tracing error" it didnt even try to burn, tried again with all different aspis and shit, maybe it would just be best to feed the fishes with this philips shit and buy a plextor.

    1. Phillips is poo :) I think your burner is toasted :(
    2. Plextor is alright (especially their new 52x24x52) however for their performance they are quite expensive.
    3. Reccomendations: LiteOn 52x32x52/52x24x52, ASUS 52x24x52

"Philips is poo" - no shit? :D
well i was planning to buy a plextor (so you dont have to waste 100€ /month coz of the coasters), i took the burner to the place where i bought today, and they would "check" it for some errors :p lets see if i get my money back, lets hope so.

I'm in agreement with Praetor on this issue as HP DVD Burners are poo 2! (hehe)

I recommend the LiteOn 52\32\52 or 52\24\52x, Asus 52x, Memorex 52MAXX or Polaroid BurnMAX52x cd burner. If you wan't a rom that can read "pre-gap" of the latest Safedisc 2.9.x cd protection then look for a Toshiba SD-M1402 DVD-ROM or a Toshiba XM-6702b CD-ROM.
