cheapest of the cheap

    my friend asked me to build him a computer he wants it to be like the cheapest you can buy, he mainly wants it for internet, watching movies and playing games like call of duty 2

    can anyone help me find some ok parts for him

    at that point, the only way you'll be able to build it would be to really just use subpar or cheap used parts. he's better off buying a prebuilt anywhere below about $600, in my opinion.

    so far its 409 usd now the video card (and thats VERY GOOD considering it has a core 2 duo)

    if he wants something decent he will just have to pay for it.
    $400 is not going to get you a good gaming system.
    But Dell does have some systems that MAY work for around $600.
    Building a good system cost me about $1000 and that is not even including the speakers, monitor, hard drives and optical drives which i pulled from my old system.
    a good graphics card alone is about $150
    good RAM is about that as well for 1GB

    I would say the lowest system he will be able to get away with is around $600 with a decent grapgics card, RAM, motherboard, case and decent processor.

    what would be the best processor below the core 2 duo?

    something around 100- 150

    below that too, what would be best before all of them core 2 duos popped up, maybe the pentium D?

    well yeah but dude for 25 bucks more! u could get a core 2 duo and the performance increase is ALOT

    yea i agree. if thats all he cares about then theres really no point in getting a custom built one. i dont care for dell but a $300-$400 dell will do just fine for that.
