I am following the DVD to Xvid guide, but I seem to be having some problesm durring the multiplexing phase. It seems that after I multiplex the AC3 Audio stream and the second pass AVI (using Virtualdubmod)I get what I descibe as Film stuttering. The Audio Playback is fine, but the Video tends to have mini skips. For example, in a scene that pans, you can see it jump every half a second or so. I have a 448Kbps AC3 audio stream and I am setting the interleave "preload" and "interleave every" at 128ms as the guide suggests. If I play the Second pass Avi before multiplexing, it plays smooth and looks great. I have read through many forum links and have not found an answer. I can only think of three possiblities for the problem. One I am filling interleave setting in wrong and something durring the multiplexing is going wrong, or it may be player related. I am using WMP. Lastly, it could be related to my Home Theater PC, in which I am using Powerstrip to output to a HDTV at 720x480 at 1080i. Thanks in advance for the help
Hmmm, does the video stutter when you dont output to your TV? Would the same problem occur if you mux in an mp3 file instead of AC3? Have you tried other players, and what were the results?
Well after monkeying around with it all day, Finnally I tired downloading the VirutalDubMod 1_5_4_1 and Multiplexed the two streams just using the defaults and that seemed to work. I have no idea why. I am going to try multiplex the streams under various interleave setting in order to figure what seems best for my system. I have a funny feeling this may be related to me outputting a custom resolution. I dont have another computer, so I can't test that theory now. I did think about trying it with an MP3 stream, but I was really shooting for AC3. It would be great if there were a little more info on how to figure out the best interleave settings when multiplexing.
Glad to hear you got your problem worked out. Were you using the vdubmod version thats found on this site?
Yes, I first downloaded the VDubMod (VdubMod 1_5_1_1a) from the link on the guide. Then after reading a few more threads, I went to Doom9 and found this other version. Like I said, the fix could be because of two reasons: One, the new settings I used, or Two the different version. My guess is the new settings. I will try to report back on what interleave settings seem to work best.
