bumping threads

are you not allowed to bump your own threads if you make a post and don't get a reply answering your question.. if nobody has responded in it within a few days?

I've posted on here before for around 2 years.. and bumped my threads if they didn't get answered.. and never been warned before..

I'm assuming that one guy reported me since he jumped in right after the mod posted.

 

Mate bumping threads is not allowed on aD. You just need to be patient and if it does not get answered look for the answer and again instead of just writing "bump" Wrie a sentence saying the progress you have made on the search. A lot of people here do not always answer easy questions because all you need to do is search. If we do post something it will be for you too search on the topic.

 

Found it! I hope I am as sucessful looking for other info. Sometimes I don't know how to ask the question. lol. Anyway I also was wondering about what to do with a no response thread. And here I am. Maybe someone should start a new thread "ignorance is not bliss" for us illiterates and those unbothered by too stupid questions. I won't because I do not want to create a dead space thread. Truly don't want to waste anyone's time. Thanks for being here.

Bumping a thread is where you reply to your own thread in order to move it up on the forum list of posts and make it more visible to possible reply-ees, hence 'bumping' it up.

 

why did i - as you would say - revive it?

because i've seen several people bumping threads and i don't like it.it's really annoying.why not just post in saying" help me please,someone answer?" than just saying bump?

 

that's the same thing as bumping... it's just a short reply so you don't have to type out.

"please help me out."

you bump it because you still haven't resolved your problem and you need help.

if you're allowed to say "please help I haven't figured it out yet." then let me know, and I'll just replace bump with that. But I was under the impression that wasn't allowed either.

 

It's a little retarded bumping threads.. If it hasn't had a reply it's probably because the question is soooooooo easy to find an answer for (like the topic directly below... in the stickies or even in the FAQ that it's considered by other members as plain lazy to ask.. or it's strange, obscure or should be on a more relevant site.

I could go asking really in depth questions about apache configuring, or the mailto function in phpbb.. but I know the chances of getting an answer here are remote to say the least...

I try to stay away from asking questions in forums unless I absolutely can't find the answer, because people like to try and be billy badass on a forum and put down every user they possibly can in every thread.

bumping threads aren't that big of a deal. if the person doing it starts all kinds of stupid threads every other day then it would be understandable.

 

bumping does suck big time. my opinion i consider it as double posting on purpose. but yeah if it goes a few days...research urself and write i did find something or i didn not and sahre ur prolem how it got fixed or something to help others.

 

yeah.i agree.the ad user ranked as newbies just want to upgrade their ranks.double-posting is annoying.try to avoid it as much as possible.

 

yeah... although the fact nobies cannot post more than 3 minutes (juniors too?) does suck... well only for the noobies that actualy are trying to get involved and help people.... anyways back oin topic (congrats on becoming senior, man.) ive seen people get away with bumping alot.... its not that big a deal apparantly

and i would know how newbies and jun mem feels...the 3 minute thing isn't required...that's my opinion, but i think it's not fair.

 

The three minute filter is in place to prevent spammers spamming quicker than can be coped with by Moderators. Also, it doesn't apply to Juniors.

Status means nothing here anymore and bumping thread/irrelevant posting is annoying.

 

ah yes...i was thinking about the 60 day old thing for jun mem and newbies and i'm sure marlino was thinking about that as well.
