what is .com] extertion

    i have obviously seen the .com, but never .com]. i am trying to playback a vidio a friend sent me but it has that extention and none of my programs recognise it. i put it through gspot and it wasnt recognised there either. does anyone know how to open this? please help.

    .com] would suggest the end of a tag, not an extension. some.video.[celtic_d].[afterdawn.com].avi

    .com] is the extension? Square brackets are unusual characters to find in a file extension. maybe it got mangled or altered. Ask your friend how he or she played it.

    Careful! .com is also a file extension for executable files just as .exe is! That means it could be infected. They date from the old MS-DOS days, most of the DOS utilities and system files were this type, command.com, dir.com, etc. Originally, the difference between .com and .exe files was that a .com file could not be bigger than 64K in size.

    "FILExt - The File Extension Source" notes that these files can be dangerous.
