EAC-writing CD-R problem

Hi,
I used EAC to creat a WAV file and then drag and drop the tracks to write to a blank sony 80min CD-R. Play back has pops, cracks and static. Any suggestions as previosly this same routine worked well for me, but now has obvious quality issues?

by the way, the created wav file plays error free using winamp. The problem obviously seems to be in the writting process. Just don't know what went wrong?
