I have an Aopen 4048 CD-RW, with windows xp nero 5, and the latest drivers. The problem is that when i put in any cd (blank or not) it doesnt reckognize it. The cd spins, the light blinks, my mouse even indicates that it detects i put something in the drive. after about one minute of "detecting" it gives up and says i have nothig in there. It worked for about a month and then it gave up, i dont know whether it has something to do with my xp automatic updates or maybe i have a virus. Please Help
WindowsXP is a quirky OS when it comes to built-in burning capability. Many people claim to be able to burn fine. Many others have problems. Microsoft released an update to the IMAPI (which, FYI stands for Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface); that update can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320174. Furthermore, Microsoft has adressed other burning issues with WindowsXP, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324129 Another thing you may want to look into is ASPI. For more information regarding ASPI see http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm
thanks thats a good thing to have, but the problem still remains... is it possible to break the drive by pushing the tray into the slot instead of pressing the eject button? AND the warranty becomes void if i open the computer, which ive done. is there any way to tell whether it has been opened or not? can i still "get" my warranty?
Theoretically no since most drives are 'loose' there are however some drives (like my ASUS) where the drive can be pushed in but shouldnt simply because of the motor design or whatever. If, when you try to manually push the tray in and it goes in smoothly then you should be fine however make sure you push it in level . I remember accidentally jamming a tray in once on an angle.. had to crack it open, maneuver the drive tray out and reinsert it lol Usually there are stickers and crap which are a pain in the ass to manually remove and if they arent manually removed then your warrenty is void. If you spent the time to do so then you should be fine. If there arent any stickers then you should be fine.
