Okay, I guess I have two questions.

First, what is the best program to use to convert a dvd from PAL to NTSC. I have used convertxtodvd, vob blanker and nero. Is one better than the others? It seems like it is hit and miss with actually getting the conversion to work. i know when i have done it some times the final (ntsc) product still will not play in my dvd player.

Second, is there a noticeable loss in quality in doing the conversion?

Either ConvertXtoDVD or Nero is better at converting PAL to NTSC.
Does a 'true' conversion to NTSC.

Vobblanker 'masks' it to appear to be NTSC and works with most players. (that's about as technical as I can get on the conversion)
But may not play in some.
Good thing about it is it's free and faster then Nero or ConvertXtoDVD.

I've used all 3 to do PAL to NTSC and I haven't noticed any loss in quality.
Just can't convert the menus with these. There are programs that will - I've just never tried.

I will try to be more clear. As far as avi files, I use Nerovision to transform a downloaded (700 M) file wich is unsuspectely in Pal. Nerovisio asks me if I want it to be converted in NTSC and I accept and the job is done.
But lets say I downloaded a PAL DVD-R (4,3g) and I want to transform it in NTSC. Doe's Nero 7 trough Burning rom can convert it?
Or I have to bust it and go trough Nerovision? Anyway is the conversion worth it?
Only time I saw a recipe, I told myself It was too complicated
    Tanx

    Ok now I gotcha :)

No burning rom won't convert the file from PAL to NTSC.

I'm thinking by the size of the file it may already be a dvd complaint format but could be wrong. If it's is the conversion to NTSC isn't that long in Vision - less time than avi to mpeg.

If the download is a video_ts folder will vob's, ifo's & bup's try playing it back on the pc. You can use Nero Showtime to play the folder.
Playback ok then give vobblanker a whirl to convert to NTSC. Burn those files w/ burning rom.
Check out this link for a screen pic on using vobblanker - link
