I downloaded both cds of Midnight Club 2 for the PC and I got all these .001 and .002 files etc. Now I've downloaded a SVCD like this before, so I went on to extract the download. But when I went to extract it, all I got was .001 files etc.... no bin and cue... someone please help!

What format were the files you downloaded?

What application did you use to extract the files?

You mentioned SVCD, that is a format used for movie files!

keep extracting the 001,002 files etc until you get the image! Tnen burn as you normally do (if there is protection you may need to account for it) :)

I only mentioned SVCD because I had previously downloaded an SVCD that had archived files like that. I wanted to show that I had some experience in these type of archive files. The file I downloaded was in tar format. Now when I extracted the files, no image file was made, unless the .001 and .002 and etc files are the image files...

Can someone explain to me the protection part that praetor mentioned?

    1. Yeah just keep extracting the 001, 002 files and such... a lot of things you can download are usually archived in 2-layer archives.

I am still not getting an image file. I checked the two tutorials you gave me, but they require me to have images which I don't know how to make from the .001 and etc files. I just want to make it clear that when I extract the .001 files, all i get is those files, no image at all... I'm thinking an image must be made from that file then burned with Alcohol 120%.

Keep extracting the 001, 002 files! You're not done extracting!

Extract them using WinRAR. It doesnt really matter which file u use with WinRAR to extract although in general, use the smallest numbered file.

There's the problem. The files i extracted have an extension of .001 etc. There is no way for winrar to recognize it. I did some more research and I found out that these files were made from one large file split into pieces by a program called Mastersplitter. I used it, but when it was combined I got a file with no extension on it! It just said file.

How big is the file? Try opening it with cdmage via trial and error

Each file is about 15 MB, so 840 MB. I'll try the suggestion.

First give it a BIN extension and if that dont work try ISO. The BIN should work though.

open the nfo file with notepad. it was made with that extension on purpose.
Inside there you'll find the instructions.
    Notepad or nuthin!

It doesn't tell me anything but to unpack, install, and play... this is getting to be a pain.

Okay okay okay... enough bloody confusion already do this:

    1. Delete all the files related to your download except for the download itself

    2. You should have 2 files or so (give an take the NFO files). Now the NFO tells you to unpack. To do so, extract the 1st CD to a folder called CD1 and extract the 2nd CD to a folder called CD2

    3. If you dont get one big-ass file in the CD1 folder but instead get a whole bunch of 001, 002 blah blah blah files, then extract those files into the \CD1\CD1 folder. Do the same for CD2. Repeat this stepf until you eventually have one bigass file. If you have a whole bunch of little files then you are not done unpacking. Do not proceed until you have a single file in each cd's folder.

    4. Once you have completely unpacked the files, if the extension is not ISO or BIN then give it the BIN extension and try opening it with CDMage (when you drag-and-drop onto CDMage it asks you to select a "mode", trial-and-error the first four) and if none of those modes work, give it the ISO format. Repeat the deal with CDMage but also trial-and-error the Mode1/2048 option (the last entry in the drop-down box). One of those settings should work. If they dont work you have either a really obscurely formatted cd-image or you have a bunch of crap (i.e., fake). BTW make sure you dont have 'hide extension for known filetype' enabled (duh)

    5. Now burn away! (keeping in mind any protections if present)._X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+

Hello people! I'm writing because I got the same problem brian has. I downloaded shenmue 2 disc 1 and after extracting files I obtained those damn .001, .002, .003 ecc. files. I tried usin winrar with them and the result was that Every file's got an image file inside of about 730MB! Absurd, then I tried using MasterSplitter and I managed to obtain a file without extension containing all other image files... it's kinda strange.... I got no time now to explain it better, I'll talk about it tomorrow.
