Some DVD's won't play, AVIcodec says 'supported'

Have a DVD that plays on my home WinXP PC with Windows Media Player. Same DVD on the laptop on WinXP won't play. Says it's an "Unknown DVD".
Ran AVICodec software to check if the codec on the laptop supports the files on the DVD, and it says it does. Laptop is a HP with a Matshita UJDA775 DVD/CDRW. Other DVD's play fine on the laptop. Just this one has problems.
The DVD is MPEG 2 format if that make a difference.
Any suggestions?
