I would like to secure my router so people around my house cannot use my network. They slow it down to much.

Would this be a wireless router?

i guess you didn't setup the wep which is something like key encryption. check router manual to set up the wep for wireless & set encryption to 128bit not 64bit. make cetain any of your pc's using wireless has the same setting or you won't get on the net

yo should be able to go into your routers settings just by typing in

    192.168.1.1
Then it will ask you for a password and login name. type admin for both password and login name and then you should be able to get into your routers setup screen.

Then go on to the wireless tab then go to security and then you should have an option to put a wep or WPA key in and then type it in and then u will need to save yoursettings and then you will need to login into your wireless network again.

I get three networks and all are secure and i just click and get access to mine which is also secure. You need to click on your and then put in the password you set.

press the reset button on the router as it resets everything to factory default. once that is done, redo the wireless configuration which includes new password. use wep & 128bit encryption

I would use WPA instead if your router supports it.

Ok, I figured out how to put the encryption on. But when it is on, and i use a WEP instead of WPA it says I have limited access and it doesn't let me get on the net or messenger or anything.

Ad ddp says you need to setup the password and you need to put that password on every computer so that it can have access to the net via the router.
