BF2 Server Refused Connection

When I first bought BF2 for PC I could play online. Then I downloaded the newest patch and installed it, and now I can't play online anymore. I uninstalled the game and tryed playing without the patch and it wouldn't show any servers in the online menu. So I assume I need the patch in order to play online now. However when I install the patch and simply try to log in on the first screen it says server refused connection. I have disabled all my firewalls and tryed some things it said on EA games website. If anyone else has had this problem and knows how to solve it I would appriciate it if you could tell me some things I could try. Thanks
