I'm using the default settings that Decrypter came with when I installed it. Same goes for Shrink.

Sorry but I find it amusing how I'm being doubted even though I'm watching a copy of Narnia on my player as I type.

How many times do I need to say, when you edit out the problems and have "movie only", it works. Note though that you are editing and you have movie only. Many of us prefer at least having navigation. The way I do it, I keep about everything but foreign languages and the DTS sound.

As I stated in the topic that is now closed, after trying to backup the entire movie ISO using Shrink its working fine. Bit slow because of the amount of compression its having to work on but I've not had any problems so far.

I don't doubt your word about having a movie you're transcoding. As I noted several times, if you can get a rip, you can edit the problems out, it's especially easy if you go movie only. I just find the copy you backed up suspect. Default settings with DVD Decrypter with ignore errors and O retries has this Region 1 copy at 5% and 45 minutes into the rip. It only takes about 18 minutes in File Mode without the ignore, and about the same with AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter. So, ISO is a no go with this copy. 45 minutes tells me it's a waste of time and I'm shutting it off.

I see what you're saying but my Narnia finished ripping in ISO mode in about 30 or 35 minutes - maybe its also down to the reader?

When I've finished making a backup of the entire film with no editing I'll let you know the results including how it plays. I've no idea why your rip is taking so long - most strange.

I'll put my system up against any for encoding and ripping. There's no flaws in the software or equipment.

You've already said you're doing movie only, what is it about editing you don't get. Movie only means you edited out everything else. If you're doing it differently, you should have told us you changed your mind. In which case, you still have to edit out VTS_01_1.VOB. You need to review that thread Creaky pointed out for you. You're just repeating much of the same jibberish as passed before. The content of an ISO is the same as the Video_TS. You're not miraculously bypassing copyright protection, by the manner in which you read it. If you look inside an ISO, you'll find the Video_TS folder with the accompanying IFO, BUP, and VOB files inside.

Here's a screenshot of that problematic ISO rip. I didn't include it all due to sheer length. It went on for about 50 minutes.

@ZebUK - what's strange is that you think i've closed the other topic to deny you free speech. funny how i linked to this one and am not stopping you say anything :)

i have already posted that i only ever do movie only, that alone gets me better success than ppl that do the whole disc, plus different regions have different protections even on the same film sometimes. i'm in UK and in this instance i honestly can't remember what i used to do Narnia even though it was only a few days ago. i backup shedloads of my films and there are categorically some that cannot be done without extra help from the likes of AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter etc. Period. i suggest you trawl thru that link i provided as you will see what we mean.... the devil's in the details..

..plus no-one minds you helping, it's just 'fraid you haven't got the Holy Grail of dvd ripping there..

@ZebUK - without you thinking i'm stopping free speech, copying rental movies is illegal and also against the rules of this site

Do us a favor and download the trial of AnyDVD, just for test purposes. You don't need to keep it. LOL Open Narnia and then open the info window and give us a copy of the info window.

This shows the copyright protection from the Region 1 release that I've backed up. It was trouble free doing it a number of ways.

Well, it seems you misunderstood something I said as well.

I stated that although I am watching a copy of Narnia right now I am also using Shrink to compress the entire ISO of Narnia and no problems have been encountered so far. Just in case you have a problem understanding plain English I'll state that the version I'm encoding now is a completely unedited version ripped with default settings using Decrypter. I'll also state again that [bold]no errors[/bold] have been encountered so far.

I also stated in an earlier post that I didn't want to get into any arguments and it seems to me that you are trying to goad me into one so I'm going leave now and let you get on with your attempt at debunking whatever I say. I may appear to be a newbie on here but I have extensive IT experience going back 27 years. Granted, not a great deal of it relates to DVD copying but I do know how to use applications.

From my own experience in the past of stripping copy protection from commercial games, phreaking the telecommunications systems and other activities you don't need to have a great setup to beat something, it just takes a little patience and understanding.

I've no idea which country you're in but right now its just gone 11pm where I am and I have to be up at 7am for work. If I happen to screw up the hospital network because I'm tired after having been debating about DVD copying then I won't be too popular.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one and leave it at that as it seems no matter what I say you've already made up your mind to refuse what I'm saying, probably to save face.

    Goodnight.

Creaky, you completely removed my post, so I'll say it again. 95-97% of the time Decrypter works. No matter that there are SOME discs that aren't copiable without help, it works 95-97% of the time by itself.
If you need to use PCGedit plugin once in awhile, so what? It adds a few minutes at most, and most people already use "helper" apps to blank out the extras, or reduce the menus to stills, or whatever, so really, needing to use the extra free plugin on 3-5 discs out of 100 is a non-issue.

@ZebUK - no-one's gettng at you, we're just saying that there are some films that aren't protected the same way around the world, and that not all brand-new films have the latest encryptions. that's all we're saying. oh and different ppl do have different successes with some films. that epic thread linked to earlier will explain a fair bit.

    @Creaky
One last note before I go after reading your last post.

All films I've copied for my sister to borrow are films I own. Any rentals I copy I also buy which is why I'm not bothered about long copying times. The whole reason I backup my films is because I find friends don't always tend to take great care of them when borrowing them. I've already had a few scratched.

Now I really am outta here.

If you're encountering no errors, then you have no copyright protection on the disc you are backing up. That's why I asked for a copy of an AnyDVD info window that shows the copyright protection used on a particular disc. We found out before that a rental (from all places the UK) was being touted as a source and it lacked copyright protection. Whether a freak or some good pirating, who knows? I've been using and working on computers for a few years myself. I've been doing DVD backups since the hardware came available and am very familiar with both DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and a host of other software.

As for the method being used, I assumed you were using the method you touted in your little help guide.
If that doesn't sound like movie only and editing, I'm a bit lost. Irregardless of how you did it, download the free AnyDVD trial and show us the info window on the disc you backed up. http://www.slysoft.com/ .

i got narnia and chicken little and decoded them using dvd decrypter. when i go to shrink them using dvd shrink 3.2 i get an error message saying there was an error or malfunction with one of the files. i believe the exact title of the file was vts_01_1.vob. i would be greatful for some feedback on how to correct or work around this problem.
