Nero can't burn a VideoTS folder, thats why
You know I'm not argueing with you ole buddy but I don't understand what you mean. I always use Nero to burn my video_ts folders. I very seldom make and burn iso files when using DVD5 media. I do however build and burn iso files when using DL media, using imgburn to write of course.

I am with Mort on this one. Although I most often create .iso either with DVD-RB or Shrink, there are occasions that I will go the VideoTs route and for these I burn using Nero. 99% of my burns are iso burnt with ImgBurn.

restgarc, the PX-716A is still the better drive but not being made anymore you can still get the PX-716SA or the slot drive though . all of thoughs have an 8MB buffer memorey compared to the new drives that just have 2MB

I agree with aabbccdd the Plex 716a is the better drive, Plex is now producing lower priced drives to remain competitive, and although it will burn at 18x, you still do not have the 8m cache in it.

Hi everyone, new to afterdawn. Just wanted to add to this thread a bit. I've always used DVD Decrypter and shrink with no problems (about 2 years now), until I tried ripping (new disc)Basic Instinct 2. Using DVD Decrypter, the program would stop a little after the begining of the first movie VOB and ultimately give me the read error. I suspect dummy files that the industry is incorporating into newer DVD's ( Can't be sure, first time this has happend). Shrink's open disk would not iniciate scan at all, and SmartRipper would give me "list index out of bounds" after the inicial scan. What did work with the same movie ,flawlessly, was DVDFabDecryter. Don't remember where I got it from, search for other ripping tools I think, but I was very happy. Maybe this is usueful info. The best part is that it is Freeware.

you can download all the programs here also

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

follow the guides and see if that works for you.

if you don't like Nero set your target in DVD Shrink to burn with DVD Decrypter.

or you can try using CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD i am sure this combo will do the movie. download and use the 21 day free trial.

RipIt4Me and another option that work great also, you can get it here plus there are guides to use it

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110

remember to use good blank media Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim and burn at 4x starting out on a clean machine without other programs running while burning. and make sure you have the latest firmware on your drive

I definately prefer Ripit4Me, DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, PgcEdit, VobBlanker, DVD Rebuilder and ImgBurn for my process. There seems to be some bugs with IFO Edit using WindowsXP or I would spend more time learning to edit the IFO's myself. In the end it all comes down to what works best for you!

Wild77,

You need more applications, after all your only using 7 freeking programs to make a backup. You must have a lot of time on your hands or enjoy the complexitiy and fine tuning.

For me I settled on two soltions and will eventually narrow this down to one of these.

1. Ripit4me/DVD Decrypter/FixVTS/ImgBurn (no compression 1:1 with full backups to DVD9)

2. AnyDVD/ConeDVD 2

For now I am leaning towards choice 1 as it is free and works perfectly for me.

Dennis

I for one prefer a method similiar to that of wild77. Ripit4me/dvdremake/dvd-rb/cce. I don't want all the garbage (previews, trailers, and warning screens) on my backup thus the reason for remake. I also don't want to spend $1.50 or more on a blank dvd when dvd-rb/cce can compress to fit on a 25 cent or less DVD5 and look as good as the original on my 52" HDTV.

I go for RipIt4Me, either RB or Nero Recode to compress, and ImgBurn or Nero to burn. Nice and easy no problems and the DVD's look fantastic on my 52 inch Sony set. Every once and awhile I do a Dual Layer but it really is not necessary, even with high compression for a single layer they still come out looking good.

The programs I use depends on the movie. Ripit4me, DVD Decrypter & FixVTS all work together. Some movies can be ripped then stripped with VobBlanker and burned to a DVD-5 with no compression. VobBlanker is also great for episodic disc's, splitting them with no compression.

I also have the following programs running on a Linux machine with Wine

DVD Decrypter
Ripit4Me
FixVTS
DVD Shrink
DVD Rebuilder (free version)
ImgBurn

The more programs available to us the better off we all are!

if i had more time i would opt for dvdremake/dvd-rb/cce but i don't. so high compression movie/concert dvds i go DL with CloneDVD 2 + AnyDVD 99% of the time. but i am VERY impressed with RipIt4Me !!

@arniebear and aabbccdd

The price of the Plexys in arnie's link is for ten drives....we could all go in on them and get a 750 for 63 bucks a piece.
