jbvideo you are a genius.
I used a usb cable and after working it out hey presto.
If it helps anybody....You must copy new firmware into the firmware folder. This took me 15mins to work out.
Keep up the good work
PS Is the channel editor_1044 any good???? if so how would one download it??

Hi, I'm also having problems with Starview The Box PVR. When I record, some things come out OK - some things don't. It might playback up until a certain point in the recording and then freezes i.e. won't play beyond this point. Some recording don't play back at all. I noticed a few others on this site with same problem. Does anybody know why this happens ? I tried with 2 different Hard Drives and still the same result. I had to set Jumpers to Cable Select as Drives aren't detected on Master setting but I don't suppose this matters. Any help much appreciated.
p.s.
JBVIDEO - I see you wrote guides on this. Are you not having this problem ?

Hi
Glad you are sorted, the channel editor is in the 'eko.4shared link' which is in an earlier post in this thread and its called 'SV Channel edit', its not brilliant and I prefer to alter my own channel list using the PVR's own menu system then save my final to the H/D via the menu system, which is a safe backup.

Hi
I wrote some guides, and found out most by experimenting, I am not having problems with mine, the only fault I have is that the EPG is slow. Your problems won't be hard drive related and I have mentioned this many times in different threads. You must have a GOOD incoming signal strength because you are going through 2 tuners, so to test this remove all splitters etc and connect the suppliers cable only just to the main tuner (ie no loop cable connected) and do some test recordings. Take the PVR to a mates and try it, get a mate to bring his to your house to try it, there are loads of possibilities, you just need to think about them and try them. (Process of elimination)

Was wondering if somebody could help me out. I have the starview pvr and am using it in cork Ireland. it is running BOXPVR_E_v4506_15Oct.bin
The problem I am having is the epg will only display maybe 1 to 2 hours of listings. I have left the epg on for up to half an hour and it still will not display any more programs. Is there some troubleshooting I can do to resolve this?
Also is there a newer .bin file I could download to try and resolve it.
I have also tried to re-load the flash but no improvement.
Thanks.

If you Back up your current channel data to your PVR hard drive using the HDD Interface menu and then copy the file to your pc you can edit, sort, rename all your channels, favorites etc. using the Starview Channel Editor {SVCE_1044

When you have sorted and edited, renamed your channels and favorites on your pc, save the new file and copy it back to your PVR hard drive and upgrade your new channel data in the HDD Interface menu.

Hi, I've read through this thread and a few others and have a couple of questions i hope someone will be able to answer.
I'm having the same problem that a few others have mentioned, i.e. playback of recorded programmes freezing or jerky video/audio.
I've seen the answers by jb explaining that its probably a lack of signal, to get rid of splitters etc, and that i also need a loop trough from video 1 out to video 2 input.
I've got my box signal set up with a four way splitter, one to the pc, one to a dbox that i send upstairs with an av sender, and two to the pvr box, one in cable 1 input and the other in cable 2 input, do i still need the second input into cable 2 if i have a loop through from video 1 output, or do i only need one signal feed into the cable 1 input?
How do other people have theirs set up without using a splitter if they need to use the feed for broadband or multiple boxes?
Is there such a thing as a cable signal amplifier like you can get for terrestrial signals, if so does anyone recommend a good one?
Thanks in advance, doveslad.

Hi
Im not surprised you are having problems if you have a 4way splitter going to all that equipment. I am surprised you have any signal left to watch anything at all, you just have to get rid of the 4way to get a good signal or stay with a crap signal, its up to you, boosters, not heard a success story about any of those yet, Argos seem to get them all back because they don't work. IMHO I would only use one splitter or even prove the point on the PVR without a splitter at all, for Max try (a 3 way only 1 in 2 out) then try using your PVR to record and prove the point, just use the short loop cable to tuner 2

Hi to all and any one that can help.
I've been asked by a friend to update the firmware on a PVR. Up until now i had never seen one of these and was only experienced in updating SV 1. I've been on the 4shared site and found the PVR files. I downloaded the Oct15th one and the PVR loader too. I noticed thses were .rar files and not .bin like previously. I tried to open the loader but windows tells me it does'nt know what program to use to open it. Downloaded the other loader and it ran like the GTrom but wouldn't recognise the firmware .rar file.
Any help?
Many thanks,
John

thanks jbvid,
I've now got it set up with a two way splitter, one goes off to another splitter for my pc and dbox(which both still work ok), the other goes to the PVR (with a loop through from 1 out to 2 in). It was still freezing after the first couple of tries last night, i re-powered the box and tried a few more and it seemed better, i set some longer recordings going overnight, i'l let you know if they're ok.
Shouldnt i be able to tell how bad/good the signal is with the signal bars on the info banner and the manual tune screen? At the moment the white top bar is three blocks short of full and the green one is full.
I've seen a few cable signal amplifiers on ebay, you say you've not heard of much success with these? might be worth a try anyway, i can always sell it on again if it doesnt work.

Hi
I presume you have the latest S/W installed 4.506 15th 0ct. The signal info banner is only a rough guide, watching and recording the picture is the only positive way. It may be worth trying an amplifier if you can sell it on. Another important point is to try and keep you feed cable as short as possible between your cable suppliers box and your PVR (ie feed your PVR first with shortest cable run and only one splitter) and make sure its the right type for cable.

The film I recorded last night lasted about 2 minutes then froze.
I have the latest software. I only put it in on saturday though and the previous version of sw didnt seem to freeze as often/soon as this version, i dont know if that could be down to a slightly different signal feed after i put everything back together again? might be just me.
The cables are about 30cm from supplier to splitter, then about a meter from the splitter to the box. The loop through is about half a meter long which may be a bit long? It was the only one i had with the right connecters.
Its ok if i pause it and watch it timeshifted, wouldnt that be the same as watching something from the hdd?
I'll try feeding straight into the box without any splitters as a test, then if thats ok i'll try an amplifier.
Thanks for your help, i'll post back when i get the amplifier in.
