Hi I have a annoying problem. For some reason some games won't work on my PC. They are the origional disks so they should work. The game installs fine but when I go to run the game it wont run. It says 'cannot locate cd-rom' even though its in. I think this only happens with games protected by safedisc or safedic 2. If I log out and log in as admin I can run the games fine. Anyone got any ideas? Im thinking virtual drive but I dont thik I have any. I have nero, easy cd creator and clone cd. But all these programs are also running when I'm loged in as admin so I dont think it is these. Please help me. Im stuck and its annoying
Hehe check your local security policies! Odds are that your usual account does not have access to CDROM resources as much as the Admin account.
Ive had a look at my security and everything looks ok. Have you got anything specific in mind. There was a disable cd-rom access command but that was disabled like it should be. I personally belive it has something to do with a program i have installed or something to do with safedisc as these are the only disks that don't work. BTW I have 2 cd-roms. Both cannot run safedisc cd-roms
Why is it I've never encountered this problem and have installed countless pc protected games. Care to comment Praetor (laughs)..... Shoey
If you're logged on with WinXP as "logical account" then anything you install "acts like it's installing" but actually isn't m8. Now if you're logged on as Admin then your backups of Safedisc primarily depend on what cd burner you used. If not burned "properly" then the backup won't launch but it will install. Backups Of Safedisc 2.8-2.9 should be played in your cd-rom as you would need the aid of an ATIP tool (hide cd-r\ignore media type) to play in your burner. Check out the "2 sheep burner" list and if you don't find your brand name make& model then you have to rely on "bypass efm error" in the write process using Alcohol 120& or "enhance weak sectors" using BlindWrite Suite. Try this.... (1) Login as the poo account, (2) Start --> Programs --> Whatever game it is --> shift+right click 'Run As' ... (3) Use the Administrator login. Now if that works then I can guramtee you it is some obscure restriction somwehere_X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 360GB [3x120GB, 7200, 8MB] MSI Starforce, GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB AFTERDAWN IRC: irc.emule-project.net, #ad_buddies COME SAY HI![/small]
Good thinking Praetor. It works doing it your way. Now I have to find out what is different between the 2 accounts. Also now when I run jedi academy as a 'run as' admin the mouse goes crazy.
