New AACS key cracked in a day

news article released on: 1 June, 2007

In another win for hackers over content producers, the latest AACS copy protection used in Blu ray and HD DVD discs has been cracked, one day after the AACS LA released the "fix". A hacker by the name of "BtCB" posted the latest key, which begins with "45 5F" and ends with "2A B2" on the Freedom to Tinker website and the key has spread since then. The AACS LA is obviously not pleased ...

Blu ray discs with an added layer of protection

You mean more DRM crap!! What's the advantage of having this high capacity format if half of it is used by DRM schemes?

Don't worry, at the rate things are going all we'll have to do is run one more utility to get rid of the additional layer of "protection"... LOL

Hey, didn't you guys know? I had to particular dreams. The first one was with this number 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0. The second dream was with this number 45 5F E1 04 22 CA 29 C4 93 3F 95 05 2B 79 2A B2

It seems I get a new number in my dreams everytime a the AACS key is changed.

they will never learn (the copy "protection" makers, that is) that no matter how hard you try, where there is a will, there is a way.

BD+ might be über for a while that is until the "hackers" find a way around it as well. I can't believe that they think BD+ will be a lifesaver. Heck I give BD+ a two-week lifespan before its cracked.

Hackers love challenges, the more complex the challenge the faster they will crack it because more of them will be trying to crack it due to complexity. Even though it sounds weird they all know someone will crack it eventually and they all want to be the first one to do it.

@Toto2008, remove the key or you will get in trouble! (Just Kidding!!)

Peace

It is even rumored that Blu ray discs with an added layer of protection called BD+ are coming soon. Lets see how long until the hackers crack that.
I think this says it all. Its amazing how long it takes these guys to create such protection and the hackers it takes them 24 hours to find the loop hole.

Man, it's a good thing these 22G HD-DVDs were invented so the MPAA could add all this crap to movies.

Is it just me, or are regular old DVDs PERFECTLY FINE???

actually the old DVDs couldnt store alot of data. not to todays standards. example. buy the complete season of 24 and u have 6 - 9 dvds lying around... or would u rather have 1 or 2 disc lying around? less switching and you can keep track of it.. not to mention high def. your watching the film in which it was recorded (1080p). also you can get true HD audio. if you guys haven't checked out a HDTV then maybe you should. big difference from old fasion tv.

Is not 4GB 10 years ago the same as 20-30 today?

When it comes to the DVD/Hdef formats I will stick with DVD price and potability simply kill Hdef in every way,6 DVDs is not that bad even if you have it on 2 or 3 Hdef discs you still have to switch it switching it less for only 500 more is silly, same goes for a Br burner and discs for 800 you can put away 5 or 10 25GB discs worth of data but its cheaper to do it on 25 DVD9s plus you can use them on all your computers.

If money is no object have at it ,but for normal people stick with DVD is the best option.
