Caution: This is a rather long post: I'm sorry: Here is my problem---- 1. I just purchased and received the subject DVD-VCR combo via Amazon.com. 2. I have a new Sony Bravia 26" LCD digital HDTV (KDL-26S2010) and 3. just upgraded my DirecTV satellite subscription to their new digital mode with a new DirecTV HD receiver. Both the tv and the satellite receiver feature HDMI connections. I bought the new combo recorder primarily to copy VHS tapes which have old 8mm family movies on them, to DVD discs. I cannot get it to do that nor can I record any satellite tv program. Connections may be the culprit.Here's how I connected all this "stuff" together. Satellite cable in from wall to DirecTV HD recvr. HDMI 'out' from HD recvr to HD in on the Sony tv. (Panasonic advertises their HDMI capability from the combo to the tv but when I made that connect there was NO picture on the Sony tv.) A/V red, white, yellow cable from 'out' on HD recvr to 'in' on combo. A/V from 'out' on combo to 'in' on Sony tv. After I could not record with that setup, I also connected the component video 'out' on the combo to the component video 'in' on the tv. Nothing changed. Please excuse this long and tedious post. To somewhat sum it all up: My real problem is the inability to copy VHS tapes to DVD discs ((Memorex 4x DVD+RW). Secondly, inability to record any thing on the current satellite selection on the tv with either VHS or DVD. Comments please. Thanks. navydoc (Rad in Texas)
