Well my DVD ROM drive hasn't been working for awhile. It would read CDs not DVDs, so after awhile of fooling with it I decided to buy a new drive off a friend(which i know works). The drive is exhibiting the same syptoms:

I get no errors when loading a dvd, it says there nos disc in slot.
My computer will think about it for awhile untill deciding that it can't read the disc.
CDs work find(music or other wise)
    **Drive doens't work in linux(fedora 5) or windows(win xp).

    What i've tried:
    Uninstalling the drive
    Reinstalling the drive
Changing the slot of the drive(i mean physically within the computer)

Any help, It's really getting annoying.

    Thanks
