Trying to back up one of my DVD's (The Insider) w/ DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5, but I keep on getting an error when I try to open the disc. The error reads:
DVD Shrink encountered and error and cannot continue. The error is:
Failed to read from file
The reason is: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Anybody have any ideas or helpful advice. This is the 2nd DVD that I have had this error on. Will a different program work? Also does anyone know of a really good video converter program for converting window media video into mpegs?

Often this error is due to a dirty/scratched disc. Check the disc and clean it and try it again if you find some dirt, etc.

On discs that shrink does not seem to be able to rip(rare), I will use decrypter and then shrink the file off the hard drive into a new folder.

Yes spot on:

CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check) errors are indicative of a physical problem with the DVD (scratches, dirt, warped, etc.) which causes DVD Shrink's inability to read from the DVD.

First try using proper products to clean the DVD. If that doesn't solve your problem:

One very often successful workaround is to use DVD Decrypter (which is far better at dealing with "problem" DVDs) to first "rip" the DVD to a folder on your hard drive. Use DVD Decrypter in "FILE" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "ALL files" (NOT "movie files"). If this is successful, use DVD Shrink to "Open Files" (NOT "Open Disk").

There was still a problem when I used DVD Decrypter, I guess its too late to back up that DVD (even though the DVD looks like its in good condition). Also, does anyone know of a good video converting program?
