Hi everyone my first post so bear with me please. I'm trying to shrink a 7.92GB image to fit on a DVD-R, I have set up DVD-RB to be used in conjunction with CCE SP 2.70.02.12 and it has shrunk it to DVD5 size but quality was not as good as I had expected, so as far as my basic knowledge goes I have set it up right but need some advice to make sure I have set it up as best as I can. If you go into Settings/CCE Settings/Advanced (Expert) Settings you come to the "VBR Bias" & "Qual Prec" and "VBR Passes" right now I have it set up as follows VBR Bias=25, Qual Prec=16 and VBR Passes=4, my question is; Is this the best setting to get best results from DVD-RB/CCE combination, I have stripped all I can from the disc. I don't have great spec machine (P4 2.4) so it takes up to 8 hours sometimes to do a full conversation
Hi, What exactly is wrong with the playback ? Are the files on your computer or disc when you play them back ? If on a disc what is the make of the disc ? What speed did you burn at ? What are the High,low and typical bitrates ? Cheers
Those advanced settings seem fine but most everyone that uses DVD_RB, through trial and effect finds not much increase in quality after three passes so choosing VBR passes=4 is slowing things down without much gain. Most people choose 3 passes. That really doesnt answer your question, please reply to pazzini's post for more help on that, just doing a little to help familiarize things.
All1word What is the name of the movie? If it has a lot of sound files such as those found on concert discs for example, then that would have a major effect on the end result. Concert footage often contains LPCM audio files which won't be encoded and will limit space for video compression considerably.
Hi guys and thanks for the replies so far, as i say virgin with DVD-RB so bear with me. pazzini There is nothing wrong with files when burnt using Nero they all burn fine and only burnt at x4 onto RW media at this stage, it's the quality of the conversation that leaves something to be desired, It is just very blocky (if you know what i mean), I've not been a smart cookie i've wiped the rebuilder.log file a few times so don't have all bitrate info but i do have is as follows, Disc 1 And Disc 2 Deadrum33 Thanks for your advice i've now taken it down to 3 passes, as i say old PC so happy to save time, Thanks. Sophocles I was afraid someone was going to ask what the flick was It's "Ray Mears - Bushcraft Survival - Series 1" the audio on the disc comes up as "PCM/2 Q:16b" I will be running it again overnight on Monday night so i'll post back on Tuesday to see if there are any changes in the quality. Your problem is the low bit rates of the source. You will not get a better picture than what you have got already. You can use procoder as it works much better for lower bit rate sources but what you should do is invest in DL discs for this particular DVD. M2C
All1word It's all frames with little to compress. Your best bet is to go with a dual layer copy, split the movie to more discs, or accept a marginally viewable copy. My suggestion would be to use Dual layer, or follow the order of advice in my previous sentence.
Why any one would want to try and shrink nearly 8gig of video on to a single layer DVD which takes 8 hours + to do is a mystery to me with the price of dual layer disk these days surly cheaper then the amount of electric you’ve used trying to do it
that's a fair question, for me, using DVD Rebuilder, 'main movie' takes approx 3hours and episodic discs take an average of 5hours. I have more than one PC so don't mind leaving one on overnight or whatever, but yes, sometimes it makes you wonder if all those hours are worth it. But.. i have no interest in using or buying Dual Layer discs so i'd rather use DVD Rebuilder
It is simple math. 25 cents a disc x 500 discs = $125 to backup my movies DVD-5 $1.50 a disc x 500 discs = $750 DVD-9 Thats savings of $625 and doesnt make me feel so bad for spending $30 on DVD-RB pro and around $60 for CCE, I still saved around $535. My computer is a bit faster than 8 hours (90-120 minutes wiht Opteron185 @2.9) so electricity isnt really in the equation.
Deadrum if you backup that many films 500+ fair point how the hell you’ve found 500+ films worth baking up is amazing haven’t found one worth doing, buying in ages waiting for Spiderman 3 to come out see if that’s worthy of doing
Hmm! I have over 1200 movies backed up (close to 1300). I do on occasion use dual layer say for instance when backing up Concerts with LPCM sound which will limits space, and some episodics. Most however are on type 5 discs.
Well no, I havent found 500+ movies in the last week... Example: My mother in law about an hour ago brought over a kids movie she wanted a copy of so theirs didnt get ruined by grandkids. Make a copy for her, and 1 for me so my daughter can watch in a year or two when she's older. Just dont call the backup police and tell them I made 2 backups and not only one, I dont wanna go to jail.
