slow motion effects

I was wandering which video edit software is good for applying slow motion effects to video footage after you've shot it? I read that Pinnacle Studios version 11 does this- does it do it well? Thanks for the info.

With the likes of AVI it can be loaded into VirtualDub and under 'Video'
'Frame Rate' you can change the rate to half and save the file.
The effect is slow motion, but the audio is still normal, so the sound runs out before the video.
To correct that you either select 'No Audio' or extract the audio and stretch it to the new time (which makes them really slow talkers) or add a new audio the same length as video.
This only applies to AVI and is only meant to point out the possible side effect of altering video rate without taking into account the audio.

 

You could try AVISynth. As I recall there is a Motion compensated frame doubler plugin, so you could use that to double the framerate, then use assumefps() to slow it back down, doubling the length. AVISynth can also stretch the audio whilst maintaining pitch. For true slow motion though you need to shot with a high speed camera.

Thanks for the quick replies. Regarding AVI and Virtual Dub, I shot video with a Sony 8mm camcorder, so do I capture the video to my hard drive and then convert it to AVI? And how would I convert it to AVI? While I am asking, I have an ATI TV WONDER VE card which takes tv from my cable but can't get anything from my camcorder, even though its suppose to. Any ideas to why this is? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I cant answer the 2nd question...but I use the free program "Super" to convert 1 video type into avi video type.
