Joost boasts 1 million subscribers

article published on 29 July, 2007

Despite still being in beta status, Joost has announced that they've signed up 1 million viewers. Speaking at a Skype press event in Tallinn, Estonia, Skype CEO and Joost co-founder Niklas Zennström said that the service, launched in late 2006 and formerly codenamed 'The Venice Project', was currently being tested by a million users. Ok I just went to their website. Looks to me like a whole collection of crap. Do they have Drew Carey Season 1? No. How about the new release of the Underdog Cartoon ? No.

With my P2PVOD ( my 5ooG Drive) I've got the latest in Dvd releases.

Not to be a smartass but Joost isn't meant to be your personal-on-demand-video-library. It's basically on demand tv being streamed to your PC. Also they don't always have the same content available all the time. When I first started beta testing they had a channel called "Saturday Morning Fix" and it included classic Underdog and Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Saying the service "sucks" because it doesn't have certain shows is an ignorant statement.

Also saying the it DOESN'T SUCK because it only has certian stuff is equally as ignorant!

Another ignorant statement. Note how I was neutral on my views of the program? I didn't say it was the best program in the world and I didn't say it sucked. I simply stated that saying a free service "sucks" because they do not have obscure television shows from the 90's is ignorant. Also how can one compare a on demand video streaming service to a Personal video player??

Joost seems to perfer content transfered from VHS tapes rented from local libraries ( because they can borrow for free, I guess). There is not one current item offered. The two box sets were just recent releases. SI Swimsuit... bargin bin at most suncost video stores.

"Ease of use is such an important thing for us," he said. "Ultimately, you want everything as simple as possible."
I like their thinking with this statement.
