I have a problem with my Panasonic DMR E85H but it does not come up with U99 or any other error codes for that matters.

When I can power it on with the unit power button, none of the buttons funciton except for open/close.

However, when I power it off by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds, and then start it back up by hitting the open/close, I can change channels with the unit buttons and when I hit play, it will play the most recent program recorded on my HDD. When I use the << and >> buttons it will fast forward and reverse, they work as well, both on the unit and remote.

There is no way for me to bring up Navigator to delete any shows (I only have 7 hours remaining and I record in extended play so it is really full). TV Guide on the remote does not work

When I press the setup botton on the remote, the screen goes black on the screen. But when I press the open/close button on the unit, the drawer opens and then when it is just about to close, I can see the setup screen for less than 1 second.

I can pull up the status screen with the remote.

Whenever I press the Navigator button on the remote, the system just locks up - I let it sit for about 12 hours, thinking it was "slow" but no luck.

I don't think it's the Hard Drive as I can play all my recordings by indexing using the remote.

I have updated the firmware so that's in place.

I can not reset the unit by holding down the channel up and down buttons on the unit simulataneously. Which is very odd as the channel up and channel down does change the channels.

I have tried leaving it unplugged for about 12 hours with no change.

I tried the fast unplug - unplug for less than a second - and no luck.

    Any ideas?!?!?!?

    Thanks!

    George

Well, I swapped out the hard drive and it still exhibits the same problems - with now the display on the unit says unformat - can't play anything since there isn't anything there. I'll put the old drive back in and I guess it will be go in for repair......

With the replacement drive, the screen just goes black and the unit is locked up.

    Any ideas?
