Bit of a long shot but you might want to give vlc player a try it plays everything for me. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Also Windows media player classic is and extremely good player download it from here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/media_player_classic.cfm
i have had good luck with the k-lite codec pack. You might give that a try. Located here on this site in the software section.
does it only happen when playing DVDs - plays AVIs, WMVs etc okay? also DVDs still play okay in Windows Media Player? If this is all true the it sounds like a problem I was getting... Sounds like your DVD Decoder has screwed up. Use the DVD Decoder Check Utility from Microsoft to confirm what DVD Decoder Media thinks its using for DVDs and that said DVD Decoder is both WM10 and MCE compatable. In some cases its becuase there are 2 conflicting decoders on the system, but in my case I found installing decoders from both NVidia and Intervideo fixed the problem... Google for a forum called The Green Button - they offer a lot of useful advice for Windows Media Center users...
