Window media center dvd playback trouble

    I have windows media center installed on 2 computers in my house. my living room computer is hooked up to my hd tv and i want to record tv and watch dvd's through windows media center and the computer but everytime i try to watch a dvd on either computer it will say decoder error please restart the computer or windows media center and try again. it will just give the same error everytime i try. anyone know what my problem could be???

    Maybe try system resore. Thats what I did for my Media Center problems

    i have had good luck with the k-lite codec pack. You might give that a try. Located here on this site in the software section.

    could this be a video card issue?

    does it only happen when playing DVDs - plays AVIs, WMVs etc okay?

    also DVDs still play okay in Windows Media Player?

    If this is all true the it sounds like a problem I was getting...

    Sounds like your DVD Decoder has screwed up. Use the DVD Decoder Check Utility from Microsoft to confirm what DVD Decoder Media thinks its using for DVDs and that said DVD Decoder is both WM10 and MCE compatable.

    In some cases its becuase there are 2 conflicting decoders on the system, but in my case I found installing decoders from both NVidia and Intervideo fixed the problem...

    Google for a forum called The Green Button - they offer a lot of useful advice for Windows Media Center users...
