I have a gateway laptop and one day the monitor just stopped working. I turned it on but nothing showed up on the screen. the processor light blinks 13 times then stops. I have tried it with ac power and battery but nothing seems to work. I just recently opened it up and noticed that the fan only sometimes spins but other times it moves a little then stops. All help is appreciated thanks.
I didn't actually, I doubt the problem is the screen, I think it's something on the motherboard, so I'd recommend trying to find a replacement motherboard.
Yeah yours, there used to be a time when if I answered queries, other people's responses were not just "yeah, what he said". Now that time seems to have passed lol.
I'm trying to facilitate this conversation. To make sure the other side understands, not really contributing anything. Kinda like a Lawyer I suppose. Alright so I'm gonna leave this thread since I can't really answer his question.
@phsyco Are you able to access your bios at all? If you can I suggest trying the external video before buying a replacement MB. I just went thru the same thing with a 4yr old dell a neighbor gave me instead of pitching it in the trash. I found it was dirty inside which caused heat issue (cpu fan clogged up) and it would shut down quick. I imagine that is part of the reason the hdd went bad. hehe nothing like a free laptop.
No it's impossible for me to access the bios because i can't see anything on the screen. It's just black.
plug a crt moniter in and see if anytrhing comes up usually have to press the 'fn' key and one of the 'f' keys to get external moniter to work could be just a small replaceable part gone possibly the inverter
I have tried to use and external monitor and pushed the FN+F4 key but nothing happens on the external monitor.
It's probably because the laptop's at fault and not the screen. You say nothing shows on the screen, look very carefully. Does the screen become slightly less black when you turn it on? The screen mauy power up, but show black, in which case it'll look a bit brighter. The best way to spot this is in a really dark room, the screen will emit light, even though it seems black. If this is the case, the screen's probably alright, it's the laptop inside.
