Hi, as of late, when I've been burning a CD, after completion there is a visible gap on the CD, past which the audio or data won't play. It's usually at the same point on the CD every time. The disc will burn perfectly about 1 out of 6 times. I've been having this problem using both Nero and Stomp (Recordnow).

So far I've tried using several differnt brands of media, installed the most recent drivers, uninstalled all burning software, installed ASPI, re-installed the burning software, turned off all non-essential programs, and cleaned the lens on my burner Nothing has worked so far.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been pulling out my hair after wasting countless blank CDs.

My system info: Windows XP, [1:0] D:\QSI DVD/CDRW SBW-081 (it came with my HP laptop).

is your burner an old one?sounds to me like it might be getting a little tired?..ive never had the problem you describe but i cant think of any other answer..the fact that it fails to burn in the same place on the cd makes me pretty sure its faulty...dont take my word though and go out and spend money on a new one wait for a second opinion...im no faulty hardware expert..:)

What cd are you backing up?
Can you extract the entire content of the cd(wave\mp3)? Try a free burning program called burnatonce and see if you encounter the sam error during playback. ASPI layer in check? Are you using the latest firmware for your cd burner?
