    Hi, so I've been just throwing money every which way to upgrade my once shitty Dell 2400 it's now starting to look pretty good. I bought a new mother board http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813186106
    that one to be exact and I'm saving the 512mb ram stick from my old mobo and I'm thinking about buying a gigstick for my new mobo have a total of a gig and a half...

    would this gig stick http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8224986&st=ram&lp=8&type=product&cp=1&id=1166840340953

    work with my new motherboard...

    One more thing... I'm also trying to use my old processor on the motherboard... its a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz... would that also work with the mobo... that's all i wanna know THANKS!!!

    Yes, the memory will work with the mobo, but the mobo is socket 775, most P4s run on socket 478, but some are socket 775 compatable... I need to know if your P4 is socket 478 or 775.

    it is possible to use a 478 with the motherboard or will it not even run... If worse comes to worst and i needed to buy a pentium 4 775 would i need to buy a new heatsink and fan or could i use the one that came with my original dell

    It wouldn't work, and even if the old heatsink did work, I'd recommend you get a new one, you need only buy the 'retail' version of the CPU and you'll get a new heatsink.

    It would but it's the CPU only, I'd recommend getting one with a heatsink as well, and I don't like the look of that article, no pictures, sparing detail...

    FaugYou, how are you going to mount the cpu heatsink to the new motherboard as it is mounted differently on a 775 board compared to a 478 board? also does the cpu heatsink have a fan on it? get a new cpu heatsink fan assembly that fits your board properly.

    That was my suspicion, I wasn't certain.
    You will NEED to get a CPU with a heatsink.

    yes the heatsink has a fan on it, I bought the cpu off ebay from that link and when it arrives I'm going to see if the heat sink and fan work on the mobo, if it doesn't then you can also buy them really cheap on ebay. Either way I'll save a load buying off ebay, I bought most of the stuff on ebay to upgrade my computer and everything has been PERFECT. so im just hoping it all works out

    couldnt i just buy one like this if my old heatsink and fan doesn't work

    Yes you could. Lol that's a Core 2 Duo heatsink, not a Pentium 4 one, but it'll do!

    ive spent 384$ on upgrading my dell 2400 i probably shouldnt have bought the 2400 and just bought something 384$ more expensive:

    Dell 2400 = Dont Remember $
    Faulty Ram (I bought ram on ebay that didnt work) = 10$
    Mouse = 60$

    Pentium 4 3ghz 775 socket = 45$
    Heatsink + Fan = 20$
    Video Card = 92$
    MOBO = 45$
