After finally getting tired of 2000 I upgraded to XP once more. Now anydvd is really messing up. I can't figure out why. I use CloneDVD, but that doesn't matter. I get a temp image and when I put in a blank disk my PC hard resets. If I disable AnyDVD before I put in a blank it copies fine. My question is what program runs in the background all the time and disables protections, and is updated in a timely manner? Thanks!

I use AnyDVD with Shrink to write an ISO file to the HD. Then I burn
with Imgburn. Rarely do I have a problems with this combination.
When I do I use DVDFabDecrypter, FixVTS, Shrink and Imgburn.
I've been running XP for quite a while. Out of 200 discs I've had
maybe 2 coasters.
The only program in this group that isn't free is AnyDVD and you
already own that. I haven't seen anything that does a better job
than AnyDVD.
I would suggest saving your Keys to a CD. Then delete AnyDVD
and Clone. Then reinstall.
Also Slysoft has a forum at slysoft.com. I'm sure someone there
will be able to help you.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled anydvd numerous times. This has nothing to do with any other programs. I could insert a blank without anything open just anydvd and pc would still reset itself.

that's a great question Tucker...... also you have to think about your install of Windows XP. have you done all the updates to Windows XP from Microwsoft.com? Sounds like a compatibility issue where AnyDVD has issues with Windows. this usually happens with a cracked version of AnyDVD or a bad install without updates on Windows! here is a registry free registry cleaner and it also has a FIX ISSUES button! maybe this will help: http://www.ccleaner.com/download
good luck.
good luck.

Riot13 I know anydvd has a big price tag but I promise you it is worth every penny if you have a legit version, I used cracked versions of it for about a year I had all kinds of trouble keeping it updated and spyware/virus problems. I would suggest you back-up all your important data to cds/dvds or another harddrive then format your harddrive with Darik's Boot and Nuke http://dban.sourceforge.net/, then install windows xp "legit copy" all over again apply all the windows updates "turning on automatic updates, get ie7 instead of ie6, also get firefox http://www.getfirefox.com, windows defender http://www.microsoft.com/spyware, adaware free edition http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php. Also I am going to recommend 2 anti-virus programs NOD32 and AVG Free if you can afford nod32 you can get it at http://www.eset.com you can get AVG Free at http://www.free.grisoft.com. I also suggest getting a router because a router works just like a firewall but it won't slow down your system like ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc, but if you can't get a router get zone alarm. Also install the no-script add-on in firefox. Then after you are secured you can download anydvd from slysoft.com more then likely you will have a 21 free trial again since you reinstalled windows then if you like it i'd wait for a holiday so you can get it for $44 instead of $49, I am looking at there site and it says they have a coupon right now that expires on August 12th so when you check out just type in carnival. But if you can't afford anydvd you can use DVDFad HD Decrypter which is frequently updated, and is free at http://www.dvdfab.com.htm
Here are Leo Laporte's Golden rules to computer security
Leo’s Five Rules for Safe Computing:
1. Don’t open email attachments; even if it’s from someone you know. If you do get something from someone you know, make sure that they really sent it to you. Email attachments are the number one way viruses and trojan horses get into your email. You might also want to turn off HTML email in Outlook and other programs. HTML emails are just as dangerous as rogue web sites, and can spread infections just by previewing them.
2. Don’t click links in email. That link could lead you to a phishing site, or the link may lead you to install malicious software. Copy and paste links into your browser, or type them in by hand instead. Another reason to disable HTML email - the HTML hides the real destination of that seemingly innocuous link.
3. Don’t download files from places you aren’t absolutely sure are safe. Stick with the well known sites. Teeneagers who use filesharing software like BitTorrent, Azureus, Kazaa, Morpheus, Grokster, and Limewire, often unwittingly download spyware and trojans. If you must, quarantine all downloads then scan them a few days later with an updated anti-virus.
4. Update your OS regularly! Turn on automatic updates in OS X and Windows. Apply all critical updates immediately. Criminals often create hacks within 24 hours of Microsoft’s patches (these are called zero day exploits), so you need to protect yourself the day the patches appear.
5. Use a firewall. The best firewall is a hardware router - the kind you use to share an internet connection. Even if they’re not billed as firewalls, they are, and they’re quite effective. I also recommend turning on your operating system’s firewall - even if you have a router - but I don’t recommend third-party software firewalls. They cause more problems than they solve.

what leo says about bittorrent is partly true but if you only download scene releases you won't get spyware/viruses, but also if you want protection from the riaa/mpaa you should use peerguardian 2 http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

Tucker...... I hope you didn't scare off this Newbie with all that info you gave! LOL It's good advice and I do that same! But I do have other programs that do the same as you mentioned and I do have a router with PeerGuardian2!!! Highly recommended if you are downloading torrents! but I suspect it's a faulty install of Windows that causing this conflict with AnyDVD.

I've been very busy lately guys, sorry. Thanks for the suggestions and knowledge. I do have a cracked version but I've never had a problem. I never get viruses or spyware. I just disable it when I put a blank in. I havn't had any problems that way.

quit being such a cheap ass and pay for the program, then if you still have problems come back and ask, until then I hope your computer fries.... imagine, being so cheap that you won't pay for a program, then having the nerve to ask for help when you have problems...

I agree with Res2cue!! Riot13, being a newbie I wouldn't divulge anything about pirating software! And how dare you even ask for help with a pirated version of a great program. Of course you should expect that pirated program to eventually give you problems and I hope it raises more havoc on your computer and causes XP to hiccup and not work properly! At Afterdawn we frown on people pirating anything!! So in the future if you have a problem don't ask the good people here for help if you are using pirated stuff..... of course pirated stuff will eventually cause problems!!!! geezzzzzzz stopping us from helping people with real problems with legit programs!!!! There should be a law about you guys! what a waist of our time.

@riot13
It is people like you who keep people like me busy learning how to decrap a computer. Granted there are a few pirates out there who supply safe cracks for a particular program, but the majority of hacks/cracks out there contain and added surprise which could turn your computer into a zombie or slave to someone else, why do you think that some people go to the trouble collecting all of the cracks/patches in the first place? Certainly not for just sh$ts and giggles. But, go ahead and continue installing gawdawful hacks and patches from who the heck knows where, and wonder why your computer is acting weird all of a sudden. (I've always wondered if the geek squad doesn't write viruses on the side to keep the customers flowing.)

there is nothing illegal when you back up movies you already own is there.... Stealing a program to do it is wrong, period.... Then to wonder why you are having problems with that stolen program is, well you get the point.
