noob question 5.1 speakers to lcd tv

    i got a samsung 40" lcd http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/lcdtv/la40r81bd.asp
    and i wanna connect it to my X-530 5.1, i got a adaptor so i can use white and red to the tv. when i connected it i wasnt gettin all the speakers while watching dvd's. does my tv support 5.1 or am i doing something wrong.

    your tv will not give you 5.1 surround in order to receive 5.1 you need a decoder which is found in 5.1 audio receivers
