I've succesfully managed to clone and ide drive with a bootable windows xp and make it bootable onto another ide hdd. But on my laptop i have a serial ata hdd, so would i have to buy a converter cable or is there a way to clone my ide hdd and save it as a bootable iso dvd. and then on my laptop can i boot from that dvd and copy that clone to another partition on my laptop's ata hdd? Thanks.

You'll have to attach your laptop's S-ATA hard drive to the PC using an external enclosure and do the procedure that way.
