ok i used CloneCD 4.3.1.7 to back up protected my cds. ok i burn warcraft 3 eveythign is fine when it loads but when i play it wont load. it said "please verifyl that your warcraft 3 disc is in your cd-rom drive, then click on retry".
Hehe... everything WASNT so fine was it hehe WarCraft III was one of the newer breed of games that were actually tough to copy (kinda like Mech4 and Diablo2 when they first came out). The various protections present vary depending on the version of patch used: Warcraft 3 - SecuRom - 4.68.00.4608 Warcraft 3 - SecuRom - 4.68.00 5162 (German) Warcraft 3 - 1.01 Patch SecuRom - 4.68.00.4678 Warcraft 3 - 1.02 Patch SecuRom - 4.68.00.4745 Warcraft 3 - 1.03 Patch SecuRom - 4.68.00.4982 Warcraft 3 - 1.04a Patch SecuRom - 4.68.00.5162 Warcraft 3 - 1.05 Patch SecuRom - 4.84.60.5945 Warcraft 3 - The Frozen Throne SecuRom - 4.84 All of these protections can be tricky at best. You'll have the best success using BlindWrite 5 for backing up SecuROM 4.8.x cd protection although CloneCD\TwinPeak Tool should get the job done. The new BlindWrite 5 "automatically" creates a bwa file (topology measurement) for you. Shoey
BlindWrite 5 is very easy to use when backing up a single SecuROM cd disc m8. Simply read the image of Warcraft III to your hd, then burn back. If the backup fails then use another drive on your pc and label the backup "play disc". I just want to chime in with my own Warcraft III woes, along with expressing my thanks to Shoey and everyone else for helping work around most of them. A friend of mine copied both the Warcraft III Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne discs, which I used to successfully install the games. But when I went to play the game, I got that infamous "Please insert the disc..." message. Swell. :S Having learned something about copy protection back with Diablo II, I figured that whatever my friend used didn't duplicate the protection properly. I ran his TFT disc through ClonyXXL which reported SecuROM 4.84. Following that lead led me to this forum and Shoey's notes on how to copy SecuROM 4.8 discs using CloneCD/Twinpeak and Alcohol 120% (both of which I...ahem...own). My problem was I didn't have the original media, so I didn't have a good source to make my own BWA. But I figured if the instructions said the original CCD image didn't have to include the copy protection method, an image from my source didn't have to be perfect either. So I followed the steps using CloneCD, and downloaded three different BWA files from various listed sources on this forum, and used Twinpeak to patch my "original" image file. With one BWA file I can successfully make an "installation" disc that won't play, and from the other two I can make a "play" disc that won't install, which I guess is par for the course when it comes to SecuROM 4.8-protected media. Am I right to expect this is as best as I can get? TomKey
