a video card actually allows you to watch porno on any size screen using a s-cable... or if you really want to see perky nips get a better gpu and hook it up to ur hd.

FaugYou, knock off with the porn comments as won't be tolerated here.

socom, videocard is needed so you can see what the computer is doing. it also helps in the game but is not the only component that helps speed up a game or any other program.

the term 'lag' as most people know it is where a game pauses for a moment, and then continues. This is traditionally not caused by a graphics card. It can be caused by:
underperforming CPU (Particularly with recent titles and single core CPUs)
    Not enough RAM
and a slow network interface for online or network games

The Graphics card's performance is what affects the frame rate, i.e. whether the game runs jerkily or smooth. Low frame rate should be a consistent problem, whereas lag happens most when you first look at something new, or for a short moment after you start a new level in a game.

If you think your frame rate's low, try downloading and running a program called FRAPS. It puts a counter in the top left of your screen. If your frame rate ever drops below 30, you could do with a faster graphics card to better run that game.
Note: Fraps won't show an icon until you run something 3D, like a game.
