    Hi to allll there.
    Here's the thing:
    I have a LG GSA-H20 dvd recorder DVD-+rw with the firmware 1.01
    Nero Express burning rom 7
Both IDE channels on DMA on, (not PIO).
The write speed is up to 16x, but I use 12X to make it safe burn.

The problem: It read movies with a strange delay, on the sound, that doesn't hapend with games.
And everybody tells me that I should not be waiting more than 30' to burn a 4.5 GB DVD, But it takes an hour to burn!!!!
I dont know were to get the latest firmware, I dont think that Nero 7 have something to do with it. I download an update from Nero.com lately, I'll instaled soon.

What's the problem??? Why it's so slow to burn? and read?...I mean, it read well but with a delay...like a second of delay.

    HEEEELLLPPP!
    I'll take any suggestions

    Post a log. Nero 7 Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt

Where to find firmware? Web search key words "GSA-H20 frimware"
There seems to be two GSA-H20. GSA-H20N and GSA-H20L.

Post a log and we can go from there.

    edit
    P.S
    12x is not that safe.
4x is safe. 8x is good for good media.

    Hey delmonico,
Lets see if we can fix this:)

    1) Nero Version: 7.0.0.0
Your version of nero is outdated, update it the the latest (it's free) http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

    2) Your drive, here is your problem
    [IMG]

Shown here in your nero log, the drive is set to operate in the slooooowwww PIO mode (and so is the CD drive).

    CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20N atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : TW5132P VYM013E 1.0 dtscsi Port 6 ID 0 DMA: Off

Enable DMA mode to speed things up, here's how....
    http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

    3) Your drives firmware is out of date, the latest is 1.02. You can get it here http://www.driversdown.com/drivers/20585.shtml

    4) Burn process completed successfully at 12x (16.620 KB/s)

Your using Verbatim 16X media (if i'm not mistaken), this is good stuff, but try slowing it down to 8x, it won't really take that much longer to complete a burn and increases the success rate.

Last (not really an issue depending on how it's setup)

    Existing drivers:
    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 ,

Looks like you also have Roxio 8 installed, like I said, it's not really an issue as long as it's packet writing app (INCD) isn't running along with Nero's INCD.

    Cheers;)

You ARE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE DUDE!
I'll try it today, and, even so, I have a few questions, not important. But I'll try what you say first, and then I'll ask.
    SUPER THANKS!
    and Figudts!

If you read carefully, delmonico first had the identical problems with Verbatim media. Blaming his problems on the use of CMC is illogical, particularly when there are so many other obvious problems.

Thanks, I know how to read. I do miss things occasionally, but trying to burn on poor 8x media is going to mask the real problems.
Why be destructive, when you should be constructive.
Please point out the many other obvious problems.
    I am eager to learn.

The reference to CMC mentions compatibility problems, not quality problems. digitafaq also rates CMC as "4th class" without once mentioning specifications on quality. CMC, like all manufacturers, will make poor quality media some time or another. These media are usually--but not always--caught in production. Some factories destroy off-grade media; others sell them off to no-name brands at special prices, figuring that the users will catch the bad stuff in their operations. To label CMC media as "poor" media is not exacly correct. CMC manufactures Verbatim media; so the factory does know how to make excellent product. The problem CMC has is that their M-codes are less supported in drives, particularly Japanese drives, than Verbatim; and these incompatibilities typically lead to product problems. These problems include discs that are not recognized in a drive, discs that produce poor scans, or discs that fail to play after a few months. These same discs may (or may not, if true quality issues are involved) work perfectly well in other drives that have firmware set for them.

What often happens on this site is that as soon as someone sees CMC or any of the brands that use CMC (except Verbatim, of course) mentioned as a problem, the immediate solution is to get rid of the "bad media," even if the problem is that the computer is unplugged.

The obvious problems: 1) outdated firmware; 2) DMA turned off; 3) over on hour to record at 12X (related to the DMA turned off); 4) earliest release of Nero 7 including all the bugs since addressed; 5) combining two different, incompatible versions of recording software. Delmonico fixed most of the problems except the DMA settings--his fundamental problem--on his second attempt, which took and hour and ten minutes. Writing that slowly on any medium is going to create linking problems with files even though the setting is disc-at-once. (If the firmware write strategy is not designed for 1X or 2X recording, that creates further problems because the drive is forced to write that slowly at points, and the results will not look good no matter what medium is used--Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, or CMC.

    delmonico,

First I'd like to mention that I recommend you stick to Verbatim disks and I hope you updated the drives firmware as suggested.

As mentioned, it looks like your drives are still stuck in PIO mode, a possible solution is to uninstall the IDE channel that the drives are connected to. You can do this thru device manager, right click on the correct IDE channel and choose uninstall, reboot the computer, the IDE channel will be redetected and reinstalled. This should enable DMA mode for the drives by default (check thru device manager to see).

    Here's a pic to help
    [IMG]

Just a quick note: make sure one of the drives is set to master and the other to slave (or you could set both to CS "cable select"). Also make sure all is upto date, so goto the microsoft update web site and update your OS as needed.

Last, a long shot is if you know your mother-boards manufacturer, got to the site and get updated drives for it.
