Okay i know you guys get alot of questions about graphics cards here and i did my research first but still a bit confused. I am looking for a card to be able to handle moderate gaming ( not all setting need to be maxed) but at the same time i want it to last a decent amount of time. Looking to spend about $200cdn before tax I was looking into the x1950pro and the 8600gt or gts also the HD2600XT Now from what i gather so far the 1950pro is the fastest of these but runs DX9 so i just wasnt sure on this or if i should go with a DX10 card because i would like it to last a decent amount of time. I will also take any other suggested cards into consideration. Also for one other computer im looking for a video card to run a 22'' lcd on DVI but NOT using it for gaming at all. Mostly used for watching movies and some photo/video editing. Looking to spend as little as possible on this one and dont really have a clue what to go with. Thanks in adavance, any suggestions/ advice would be great.
Well, the x1950pro is faster than the 8600 and the 2600XT, but as you said, you wanted dx10. So far, the x1950 is your best bet, but ATi has many problems with their drivers. I've got an ATi card, had some driver problems, and got them fixed with the Omega Drivers. Could I suggest a Nvidia 7600? Its pretty cheap, but fast and you dont have to worry about driver problems.
Well I dont NEED dx10, i just figuered it may be better for the future. Once games run on dx10 does that mean a card like the 1950 will not run it at all? Or does it just mean it will not run it to the max? I would like to try and budget for the 8800 320meg but do not think i will be able to. So if the ati drivers are such an issue I also found the nVidia GeForce 7900GS in the price range Its acutally an entire system build so i think i will change the title of the thread. I will be using the antec sonatta3 case with the 500w power supply it comes with. Seagate 320gig drive And i am still debating Motherboard/cpu and graphics card
What is your opinon on the AMD 5200+ processor, I will not be doing any overclocking at all. I am looking into the intels as well but they seem much more pricey.
Well, the 8600 wont be able to play most any DX10 games like Crysis, the cards just to slow. Also, games that have DX10 will run on a DX9 card, you just wont be able to see the small "eye candy" that DX10 offers. To me, DX10 isnt really worth it yet. Sure its nice, but you need vista (lots of problems) and a $500-600 card. If you can get the money to get the 8800GTS 320meg, by all means get it, it is a really good card. Much better than the x1950, or 2600. However, the 2900 does beat it, but only by some small bit. You can go with the nVidia GeForce 7900GS too, I just couldnt find one in a canadian store since I live in the USA.
I would go with intel right now. They got the Core 2 Duos, and they are pretty cheap. (Some are under $100USD) You can get a E6300 @ I think 1.86Ghz (per core) and overclock it to well over 2.5. The Core 2 Duos have a lot of headroom when it comes to overclocking, and I'm sure that you can get to 2.2Ghz with a E6300 without aftermarket cooling.
Yes, they are, in my opinion. I dont think they make AMD processors that are as fast as 3Ghz and are duel core.
Ok so so far i got, Case Antec sonatta 3 ( WIll the 500w ps in this be fine to run everything?) I think im going to go with the Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Since it has the newer FSB and the 4mb cache ( I will NOT be overclocking) 2gig of cosair ram 320gig seagate drive Now please i really need some help deciding on the motherboard and the graphics card. I only want the motherboard to have a single pci express i do not intend to run dual cards.
