I use my Western Digital external hard drive to download using utorrent... The hard drive recently crashed and I had to format it (this time I made it NTFS so I can download files bigger than 4 gigs at a time) Utorrent is working fine, the hard drive is soaking up the information, but I have been a lot more careful about the "safe remove hardware" thing since I lost all of my crap the last time... But it won't let me safely remove the hard drive because even after everything is closed it says that some other window or program is using it, the light on the hard drive is blinking and I can't figure out what the hell is using my hard drive... Someone please help, I want to make sure no one is hijacking my shit or whatever. thanks in advance for the help
Personally i'd disconnect from the net, and see if the situation still exists. By disconnecting, you'll eliminate that possibility of someone accessing your files without your knowledge/permission. It's my opinion that if the situation still occurs, is that you have a program installed on that drive and is still in use when you wish to shutdown etc. If this is still not the case, then programs installed on your C drive need to access files on your external drive. Look through ALL files that are on the external drive, that may link back to programs on your C drive. I have an AutoCAD program that often refers to files often kept on flash drives, and if i don't change the "path directory" it assumes that they are on a certain flash drive, and so i cannot remove that external drive untill i close the CAD program. Hope this helps out some. Cheers.
