Yep, I have another PS2 problem lol but this problem has been occurring since before I bought it *used to be my cousins*. All the PS2 games work fine if ya just put the game in there. Everything loads up great and all. But when I place in a Gameshark, enable the cheats for the game, and then the PS2 will tell me to enter Game CD...well none of them will detect. My PS2 laser makes popping sounds trying to read the DVD. After a little while, it tells me "Bad Disc or Absent". Both the gameshark and the PS2 game is brand new....could there be something I need to adjust in the PS2 Laser Unit to correct this problem? Or is my laser unit simply going out?

Could be either! are the games region same as the console anfd the GameShark?

Yes, both are NTSC-U

I never had such problem with even backups! So, may be you have a modchip that needs to be DISABLED or Laser is going out.

I don't have a modchip on mine lol I need to find a place on the net I can send my PS2 to get a modchip put on it where I don't have to do that disc swappin shit....but I think I fixed it. I took my PS2 apart and cleaned off the laser and it stopped doing that....now waiting for something else to go wrong LOL *besides it overheating or something and the damn games starts taking longer times to load/freezes up the games after maybe an hour and a half of gameplay*...I think I can fix that problem by putting holes in the top cover *with the PS2 cover takin off the PS2 of course* that way it has ventilation...that PS2 on slimlines *V12* sucks.

Yeah, they work fine for a year or so after they start crappin out.
Mine died after just over two years of purchase.
Around 8 months Overheating started getting severe.
around 10 months laser problems
366th day (a day after WARRENTY ENDED) the laser gave away (may be Sony programmed it like "Hold up some how until WARRENTY ends!")
370 days had it replaced.
26 months PS2 is DEAD!!

Now I got v16 Working Brilliant! nfortunatly its a JAP. so need patch PSOne games to play.
