Ok here is the problem. When i press the power button on the pc it powers on but it does not load windows, the monitor does not come on and the secondary dvd drive does not power on as well, it seems as if the pc only powers on but it doesnt have any functions as far as loading windows and it does not initialize the monitor the mouse or the keyboard. I think that it is a problem with the motherboard but i seriously hope not. If someone could give some helpful advice please help me.

If you have an extra power supply, try and see if that fixes it. If you did any maintenance on the computer before this happened, make sure all cables where reinstalled. Sometimes if a power supply is going bad, you will get the symptoms you have.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the motherboard. The fans would come on, but the monitor had a orange light(instead of green) and there would be nothing on the screen. There is also a good chance that it could be your PSU. So if you have any spare ones lying around I would try that first.

Check all connections on your motherboard to ensure all you ide and power leads are connected correctly. Also check your bios to ensure all drives are reconized and ensure your hd is set to first boot option. If you have a low watt psu you may want to try changing to a higher powered psu 500w or higher is recomended with today's demanding computers.

well the thing is that the computer was hit by lightning. Not the computer it self but the house and the computer was plugged into a surge protector. the i recently bought a new psu and and the only thing that changed when i installed the new psu is that now the hard drive has power but the dvd drive and the disk drive still do not power on and the computer still does not boot. I know that it is the motherboard, so the next questions that i have is where can i go to get a motherboard to fit the case that i already have

Is this custom built? How old is it? We would need you to post your PC specs to recommend a motherboard.
