is it the sound card you're having problems with, or just the speakers? are they plugged in just through the 1/8" audio output? if so, your computer is not going to recognize what kind of speakers they are...your sound card could care less what type of speakers it is connected to. and the sound card cannot tell what type of speakers you have hooked up unless you install the software for it (no drivers for speakers) but that really doesn't make sense because I don't see why xternal analog audio speakers would need their own software...

My speakers wouldent work when I formated my Hard Drive then rebooted Windows but then I updated my computer and then it worked so just go to microsoft.com and get the latest updates.

yes you can always update your drivers, but he was referring to his computer speakers, not his sound card...but perhaps thats what he meant. Although I'm not aware that harman/kardon makes sound cards, so I'm still not quite sure what his problem/question is...

Probably because the sound card is not install. Speakers don't carry any software, they work off the bat. Your PC isn't producing any sound. You need to work out which sound card you have and use the right driver.
    Is it a pre-made PC or custom-built?

It's a premade but has years of upgrades.

Did you ever change your sound card? If not, go to the website of the company that built your PC, find the downloads section and get an updated sound driver.
