I have a Dell latitude that had a bad virus and wouldn't restart. I decided to reload XP Pro, but didn't have the latitude discs, so I used my GF's Dell Dimentions XP Pro discs. The laptop is running great except no sound? I downloaded the drivers from Dell, installed but still no sound. if I go to the Control Panel\Sounds ans Audio Devices it says no audio vice? How can I get my sound card to work?
That's because they use different sound chipsets. Go to the Dell website and look in the drivers section for audio drivers and select your model.
I did that, istalled the driver correct driver (Crystal 4205) from dell and still nothing. Uninstalled driver and reinstalled againh no audio device and no sound
So it's this driver you got? http://support.dell.com/support/top...splash?c=ca&l=en&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=57707
Hmm, all I can suggest is for you to phone dell or email them to get a replacement CD instead, I can't find any drivers for that chipset, most people don't even seem to know it exists... (!)
