    Hi
I have a problem to play the discs on my DVD-unit on my computer.
The unit is detected but when I want to open it the computer can't read the dvd or cd-disc.
I have tried to look at the settings on the system configuration which you can see when the computer starts but the page doesen't come up.
Instead another page is shown and it seems like I have to do something with the BIOS in the computer. The page look like this.

    ASUS EZ Flash V1.00
Copyright (C) 2002, ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.

    [BIOS information]
BIOS Version : ASUS A7V600-F2 ACPI BIOS Revision 1003
    BIOS Model : A7V600-F
    BIOS Built Date : 11/11/03

Pleas Enter File Name for NEW BIOS:
** Note : EZ Flash will copy file from A:/, Press [ESC] to reboot

Please, help me solve this. It seems to be very complicated to update or install a new BIOS.

It's not that complicated, but it's not a process to be taken lightly. Do it wrong and you permanently break whatever you were trying to update the BIOS of.

don't bother trying to update motherboard bios as it won't help. have you thought that the drive might have died even tho shows alright in device manager. happened to a customer who's less then year old computer's dual layer dvd burner crapped out. shows the drive is there but wouldn't read a single disk including a xp cd.

Indeed, it'd be simpler to buy another drive, even 18x Lightscribe burners are sub £20 nowadays.

I bought a new DVD-drive but the problem still remains. The Computer can find the unit but I can't play any disc on it.

And I still can't look at the system configuration at the computers startup.

Please help me, what should I do?

That also proves that a BIOS flash won't help. Have you ever installed any games on your system? If so, which?
Does the CD drive show up with any errors in Device manager?
