Hi Looking to purchase a dvd recorder with hard drive can anyone give me any suggestions on the best buy and spec ie region 0 and macrovision disabled. Black would be nice as I've just bought a black tv and stand but not essential. thanks

I have a LG RH278, which has a 250GB hard drive and works pretty well - and it's black!
This one has a USB port so you can in theory connect an external hard drive, but there are limitations. You can't write to the hard drive. To read it, it has to be formatted FAT32 and there are limitations on numbers of files. Realistically, the USB port is there to connect an MP3 player or USB stick.
It will be region sensitive, I think, but this doesn't bother me too much, since AnyDVD allows me to deal with such limitations.
I've used it to convert VHS to DVD. It does this pretty efficiently, but I've found that it's best to write to HDD first and then dub to DVD.
I suspect that the next generation will be less restrictive regarding USB drives.
