hey, i need some help. I just was given this to me by my cousin and not a damn clue how to use it. It has 5 phone cords plug-ins in the back of it and one port that says ''Uplink'' in the back of it. Now i was just wondering if i can use it for what i WANT to use it for, which is:

I was wondering if i can use this Linksys thing, to hook my modem up to via the phone cords AND use it for my Xbox 360 at the same time, so that way i dont have to un-plug my modem and sign off my computer everytime i want to get on xbox live.

Make any sense? im not good at explaining things, but if anyone has a clue on what im talking about or knows if its possible, please let me know.

it's a fast ethernet switch, so basically it allows network communications (they're not phone cables, they're network cables) to speak to each other. You could connect a modem to it and share the internet connection over the network PROVIDED that the Modem you're using has a network port on it.

    Example

    Modem
    ¦
    ¦
    ¦
    Switch----------Xbox
    ¦
    ¦
    ¦
    PC

Should enable xbox live and internet access.
You will need three network cables (probably CAT5)

However, this will only work for LAN modems like (but not restricted to) this one:

If you have a USB modem like this:

then you won't be able to do it that simply. You will need to run internet connection sharing over LAN instead.
