converting avi to mpeg2

    while converting an movie from avi to mpeg 2 cpu just shot down and restarted it self please help someone i have win xp and i tried all kinds of converting software programs on my pc it just started about two weeks ago b4 that it work fine is a virus or something ?

    perhaps, so scan the entire PC with an antivirus software, but it could also be a hardware issue, perhaps an overheat.

    thanks i have just scan my pc for virus nothing show up its pretty clean maybe it is overheating how do i stop that? its like half way in converting the avi file to mpeg2 it just goes black and restarts it self.help me i'm gti mad now.

    Try looking inside and seeing if there's a dust build up in the fans (and check that they're all spinning). They'll probably want a clean.

    ok sammorris thanks.i will try that too because my son said that also that it might be overheating my CPU may be getting hot he said something about putting some more grease between cpu and fan.i just put that fan a few months ago.thanks a lot for your help to everyone out there.

    Also when you are REPLACING, not adding more grease between the CPU HSF. Be sure to get Arctic Silver 5 and when replacing it remember less is more in this case. Don't over do the grease you only need about the size of a bb.
