    Hi

I've just bought a Starview PVR which is working great apart from I can not get the thing to format the hard drive so I can use the PVR function.

I have put the thing in and turned it on whilst pressing menu as told to in the instructions but nothing. I have stood their doing it for over 10 mins each time I try but just get the moving line.

I have checked it is switched to master on the hard drive and it wasn't so changed it and tried again but had no luck. The guy I bought it off (Skywonder) isn't replying to my emails. Can anyone give any advice?

    Hi,
I'm having a different problem with formatting of HDD
The format starts after powering up and holding menu, but gets to 48% and then resets to 1%. This then loops...
I've powered off/on a number of times and no change :(
    any help gratefully received

Although I had other problems and have now returned the PVR for repair/exchange, this issue was solved by turning the HDD cable the other way around (ie swapping ends)

That was the first thing I tried was turing the leads about but nothing, I have also tried changing the jumper pins from slave to master, still nothing, what a nightmare

Guys, I toiled for weeks on this and in the end it turned out I needed to get a new HDD, mine was simply not working. No refund from SKYWONDER who sold me this faulty HDD and No reply to any of my messages asking for help. Thought I'd let you know that they have a very poor after sales service so consider buying elswhere if you need to get one of these boxes.

At the time I gave up on the Maxtor too and bought another HDD. However still had issues, and eventually turned the cable around. When I retried the Maxstor, it formatted ok. Both HDD gave problems with recordings etc though, so the PVR has gone back

Just to let you know, you have to install the latest firmware BEFORE you format the hard drive, aparently this is a common problem with old firmware, the manual that you get with the pvr sucks

I just got The Box PVR.

Do you have to update the firmware before you try and reformat the hard drive?

Take a look in the link below,in the Starview PVR /Documentation folder. Make sure H/D is set to Master (on the jumper pins) and red line on ribbon cable fits closest to the 4 pin voltage plug. The H/D formats through the Starview's menu system. You need v4.506 firmware installed also in the link and how to. To find your version Menu/System Setup/System Information.
