I'm looking at building a media PC, nothing fancy. It wont be using it for playing games or HDTV. Just for playing my video library. mostly AVI files. maybe even some mp3s

So what is the big deal with Media cases. would it be bad to get a basic desktop case and save $100. what does the HTPC cases offer that yout typical desktop cases does not.

I would go for the cheapest thing out there, with the following consideration:

    1) First and formost, get a case that will run COOL. Heat is the greatest killer of electronics.

    2) Power supply? Most cases come with their own power supply. So check to make sure it fits what you are going to do with it.

    3) Space. Make sure it fits where you want it.

    *edit*
How much are you wanting to spend on your computer TOTAL with everything? Not just your case.
