Here are the devices that i have installed in my computer

    PRIMARY IDE CONTROLLER
    Master: Hard Drive
    Slave: Hard Drive

    SECONDARY IDE CONTROLLER
    Master: CD Burner
    Slave: DVD Drive

My OS is Windows XP, and my computer has 512 MB of RAM

    Here is My Problem

The hard drive activity light on the front of the case does not light up when the hard drive is busy; instead, it lights up when i insert a cd into the secondary slave (DVD drive)

It wasn't always like this, and i haven't made any alterations to the order the drives are set up or the cables on the controlers.

Another strange thing, is that when the computer is POSTing, the light works with the hard drive as it should and not the DVD drive, so i thought it was a problem with windows.

    Here's what i've tried already

Removing all other drives aside from the primary hard drive and boot up with that

Disabled All IDE devices aside from the primary hard drive in the BIOS

Checked and double checked all jumper connections on all drives

Checked to make sure that the HD light is connected correctly on the Motherboard

Formatted drive and did clean installs of windows XP, once with the DVD drive at the same spot and once more without it connected at all.

And after all that, it still does the same thing. Is there anything else that may be causing the problem? Or is it a motherboard problem?

    HELP PLEASE
