Hi, my harddrive broke, so i have bought a new one and ive installed it in my pc. I dont have a copy of windows, so i have got a free cd copy of linux from a magazine. i am trying to install linux on the new hard drive but it says no harddrive is recognised i think i have to format the drive, but how do i do this with no operating system? please help, ive been without my pc for a week now and i really want to get it sorted.
Is the linux disk a live version? live disks are meant to run from a cdrom if it came from a magazine this could very well be the case. a live version won't see a hard drive that hasn't been formatted. Using an xp disk to partition the drive won't get you any closer to using it for what you need. if you know someone with a working system and can burn a disk for you try this linux versionto get you up and running again. or hop over to the linux forum they would be able to help better there if all you have access to is your setup.
