I am wondering if there is someone who might know a program or a way to repair a corrupt master file table (MFT). Reason being is that I have a PC with 2 HDDs, one of which is a triple boot with 2 x linux and XP, whereas the other is utilized strictly for its storage capabilities (my D: drive).
Anyway, booted the computer this morning to find out that ff cannot backup itself to my D drive. Opening explorer and clicking on the drive resulted in an error, "D:/is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." Seeing that there is still some data i have not backed up from the D drive I am looking for a way to either restore the functionality of the D drive and/or retrieve the data safely and securely.

Not seeing too much info on the topic here I decided to write a post in hopes there was someone who experienced a similar situation to my aforementioned problem. I read some people have had success with data retrieval software (after which they had to reformat anyway) but in all honesty if there is a way to restore the drive so i can backup the data it would be better (compared to retrieving the data, transferring it to the 10GB of space I have allocated on the other HDD and then backing it up). chdsk did not work for me I might add. I have halted my attempts for now to see what others think on the matter since I would hate to do anything that may put some of the data in jeopardy until I can figure out all the options and the safest way to proceed.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
