i have a dell dimension 4700 and i am asking if i replace my hardrive speed up my computer and make less noise. My computer currently for some reason is making more fan noise.

No, replacing your hard drive will unsurprisingly have no effect on fan noise. If the fans seem louder than you remember them, the PC may have lots of dust in it, so the best step is to clean it out.

    Its rather simple.....

    Unplug, everything.
Buy some cans of duster (Best Buy, CompUSa, etc.)
    Take the machine outside.
    Pull the side panel off.
    Dust away.

Make sure you clean out the CPU fan and heatsink well.
Same goes for the power supply.

If you are not comfortable with the insides of a computer, just leave everything alone.....make sure that if you move something out of the way, it has not become disconnected, etc.

If the fans are making noise, it may be too late for them and they may need to be replaced. You will know once you put the cover back on and power it up.
